What does PC home insurance cover?
PC home insurance covers your home, your personal property, additional living expenses if you’re displaced by an insured loss or mandatory evacuation order, and personal liability. You can also customize your policy with add-ons for water damage, cyber attacks, and more.
Standard coverage options
All PC home insurance quotes include the following standard coverage options:
- Dwelling coverage: PC calculates this coverage automatically based on the estimated cost to rebuild your home in the event of a total loss. If you disagree with the estimate or want more coverage, you’ll need to contact an agent.
- Detached private structures: This portion of your policy covers detached structures on your property, like sheds, gazebos, or detached garages. PC sets this coverage at 15% of the dwelling coverage limit.
- Personal property: This coverage pays to replace or repair your personal belongings, such as furniture and clothing. PC sets this coverage at 80% of the dwelling coverage limit.
- Additional living expenses: Loss of use coverage will pay the difference between your usual living expenses and additional costs you incur (e.g., hotels and meals) if displaced from your home by a covered peril. PC sets this coverage at 25% of the dwelling coverage limit.
- Deductibles: PC’s default water damage deductible is $2,500, while the policy deductible for non-water claims can be set at $1,000 or $2,000.
- Personal liability coverage: This offers financial protection, including coverage for legal costs, if you’re responsible for unintentional injury or property damage to others. Limits start at $1 million and go to $5 million.
- Bylaw coverage: Thanks to this default option, your PC homeowners policy will pay up to $30,000 if your municipality passes new building codes or bylaws that impact reconstruction of your home after an insured loss. You can raise your limit as high as $100,000.
PC’s home insurance coverage includes guaranteed replacement cost, which means your policy will cover the full cost to rebuild your home even if it exceeds the written limit on your policy.
PC also uses a single limit endorsement for detached private structures, personal property, and additional living expenses, which allows policyholders to borrow unused dollar amounts from one coverage if they exceed their limit in another category.
Optional coverage and endorsements
The coverage types listed above are included in all PC home insurance policies, but other coverage can be waived, added, or adjusted to meet your unique needs and budget.
- Sewer backup coverage: This essential endorsement fills a key gap in standard water coverage. Limits are available from $10,000 up to your full dwelling coverage limit.
- Overland water coverage: Only available if you have sewer backup protection, this provides coverage for fresh water that enters suddenly or accidentally through your basement. Coverage limits match your sewer backup coverage, but you can set a separate deductible from $2,500 to $50,000.
- Disappearing deductible: This add-on cuts your policy and water damage deductibles by 20% for each year you remain continuously insured and claims-free. It’s only available if you have a $1,000 policy deductible.
- Personal property claim protector: If you have a claim free discount, this endorsement protects your discount after your first covered claim. It’s only available if you’ve been claims-free for at least five years.
- Worry-Free Bundle: This bundle combines disappearing deductible and personal property claim protector coverage at a discounted price.
- Home cyber protection coverage: This optional add-on offers up to $25,000 for costs related to a cyber attack, online fraud, cyber bullying, and/or identity theft.
- Service line coverage: This endorsement adds $25,000 of coverage for damage to underground services lines connected to your property.
- Claim prevent: After an insured loss, this endorsement will pay up to $2,500 to install an approved device, such as a burglar alarm or water leak detector, that could help to prevent the same loss in the future.
- Increased jewellery limits: PC’s default limit for jewellery is $6,000, but you can raise it to $10,000.
This may not be an exhaustive list of the coverage options available from PC Insurance. If you’re interested in other types of coverage or want to make adjustments that aren’t available through PC’s website, you can call 1-866-846-0442.

How much does PC home insurance cost?
On average, a home insurance policy from PC Insurance costs around $204/month, with rates as low as $145/month for basic coverage without extended water damage protection and as high as $275/month or more for a premium policy with added liability coverage and multiple endorsements.
Home insurance pricing is highly variable, so your actual PC home insurance quotes could be higher or lower than the sample rates shown below. Keep in mind that home insurance premiums reflect:
- Province: Residential construction costs and climate threats in your province greatly impact the cost of home insurance.
- Home location: Your home’s elevation, proximity to fire halls and hydrants, and location relative to overland water threats can all influence what you’ll pay for insurance.
- Home age: Older homes are more likely to sustain serious damage and may be more costly to repair compared with newer, more resilient homes.
- Roof age: The older your roof, the weaker your home’s defenses against a wide range of threats, from fire to hail to strong winds.

Non-Optimum PC customers who bundle home and auto insurance could save around $25-40/month, or 12–17% overall, on home insurance. That’s less than the 35% discount advertised for PC Optimum members, but still a significant rate reduction.
Over the course of a 25-year mortgage, PC’s bundling discounts could save you between $7,500 and $12,000 on home insurance premiums.
The PC home insurance claims process
If you need to make a home insurance claim with PC, you’ll follow the process outlined below:
- Submit your claim: You can make a claim at any time of day or night with 24/7 support from PC’s team.
- Wait for advisor review: PC will assign a claims advisor to review your claim. Once they’ve gathered enough information, they’ll contact you with next steps. You may need to provide additional documentation, such as a detailed inventory of all lost or damaged property along with receipts and invoices to establish their value.
- Choose your repair options: Your PC claims advisor will go over the options available for repairing or replacing your property. They may advise that you work with a contractor from their network, but you can always choose your own contractor.
- Receive your payout: PC may send a cheque directly to the contractor completing your repairs, or they may send payment directly to you. For major claims involving multiple types of coverage (e.g., a house fire that requires a home rebuild, property replacement, and loss of use claims), you might receive multiple partial payments.
