How to make a term life insurance or critical illness insurance claim
Here is a simplified version of the claims process. Depending on your insurance claim type, additional steps and investigation may be required.

Begin a claim
There are three ways to begin a claim:
- Log in to your PolicyMe account, click on your policy, and click the “Access Claims Portal”
- Call us at 1-866-999-7457 between 9 AM - 5 PM EST, Monday to Friday
- Email us at servicing@policyme.com
Once you’ve answered a few short questions, we’ll perform a policy search and notify Securian Canada of your claim.

Complete your claim forms
Once PolicyMe has notified Securian Canada, a dedicated adjudicator will send you the appropriate claim forms, review your information, and follow up if anything is missing or incomplete.

Wait for review
The time it takes to settle your claim depends on the circumstances and whether any additional information is required. It could take as little as two weeks for your benefits to be paid.

Receive your claim
Once your claim is approved, you’ll receive your benefit via direct deposit or cheque.
How to make a health and dental insurance claim
If your service provider supports direct billing, you can show your PolicyMe Benefits Card and wait for your claim to be processed in real time. To make a claim yourself, follow the steps below. Need more guidance? Read our health and dental claims guide.

Log in to your PolicyMe account
On your health and dental insurance policy, click on the “Access Claims Portal” button.

Start the claim process
Follow the onscreen instructions to provide information and documentation about your claim.

Submit your claim
Once submitted, Securian Canada will review your claim.

Get reimbursement
If approved, Securian Canada will process your claim and reimburse you by making a pre-authorized direct deposit or by mailing a cheque the next day.
How to make a home or auto insurance claim
Home and auto claims are processed by your insurance carrier, but we’re happy to lend a hand. Call us if you’re not sure which insurance company issued your policy.

Check your policy
There are three ways to verify which insurance provider issued your policy:
- Log in to your PolicyMe account, click on your policy, and check the name of the issuer on the first page
- Call us at 1-866-999-7457 between 9 AM - 5 PM EST, Monday to Friday
- Email us at servicing@policyme.com

Contact your insurance carrier
Once you’ve verified your insurance carrier, reach out to them directly by phone or online. They will help you gather the information and documentation you need for a claim, and then submit it.

Wait for review
Your insurance company will assign an adjudicator to review your claim. The length of the review period will depend on your circumstances and whether any additional information is required.

Receive your claim
Once reviewed, the adjudicator will reach out to advise you on the status of your claim and inform you of the next steps.

PolicyMe can help you begin a life, health and dental, or critical illness insurance claim, and verify which insurance company to contact to make a home and auto insurance claim. In every case, the claim will be reviewed by the company that underwrote your policy.
The time it takes for a claim to be paid depends on the claim type, circumstances, and whether any additional information or documents are required. Our partners employ an experienced team of experts to ensure claims are processed in a timely manner.
Life, health and dental, and critical illness insurance claims are paid by Securian Canada. Home and auto insurance claims are paid by the company that issued your policy.
Life and critical illness benefits are paid by cheque or direct deposit, while reimbursement for health and dental insurance claims is usually processed via direct deposit. For home and auto insurance claims, the method of reimbursement depends on the arrangement with your insurance carrier.
The suicide clause states that a death benefit won’t be paid out if the policyholder commits suicide within the first two years of purchase, and is an industry standard for life insurance. The other main reason a claim may be denied is if the policyholder intentionally misrepresented any information on their application (such as the state of their health or their occupation).
Of course! We can share an overview of your loved one’s policy after an initial basic verification, and further details and information after establishing your identity. We always recommend that policyholders notify their beneficiaries and save their policy documents in a secure place to avoid confusion.
Depending on the health and dental insurance plan you selected, your PolicyMe coverage may exclude comprehensive dental services, major dental services, hearing aids, or other supplies and services. We always recommend that policyholders read their coverage documents carefully before accepting and paying for a policy.
If you’ve submitted a claim online, your reimbursement will typically be processed and delivered via direct deposit the following day, or up to one week later. Claims submitted directly by medical service providers are always processed in real time.
We recommend that our customers keep the receipts of any submitted claims for at least 12 months.
