What does belairdirect home insurance cover?

Belairdirect home insurance covers damage to your home’s structure, outbuildings and fences, your personal property, additional living expenses if your home is uninhabitable during a claim, and personal liability insurance.

Belaidirect’s standard coverage is all-risk coverage, meaning that it covers all perils except those explicitly excluded from the policy, such as earthquake and flood damage.

Standard coverage options

All belairdirect home insurance quotes include the following standard coverage options:

  • Single amount for home damages: Belairdirect assigns a single combined coverage limit for dwelling coverage, other structures, contents, and loss of use coverage, calculated at 2x your estimated dwelling replacement cost.
  • Policy deductible: Belairdirect’s standard policy deductible is $1,000; this can’t be adjusted when getting quotes online.
  • Personal liability: All online quotes include $1,000,000 of liability coverage
  • Enhanced water damage protection: Online shoppers can choose between $10,000 and $50,000 of coverage for sewer backup, overland water, and service lines, with a $1,000 deductible for each coverage. This coverage can’t be removed when getting quotes online. It also covers ground water.

Optional coverage and endorsements

In addition to the standard options included in all online quotes, belairdirect may offer the following optional coverage and endorsements to homeowners:

  • Home claim forgiveness: Applicants with no recent home insurance claims may qualify for this endorsement, which prevents your premium from going up as the result of your first home insurance claim.
  • S.O.S. Identity®: This add-on includes up to $25,000 for expenses associated with recovering your identity, access to a 24/7 legal hotline, and $500/day or $5,000 per incident for lost income linked to an identity theft.
  • Earthquake protection: Not available in all locations, this endorsement pays for damage to your home caused by an earthquake.
  • Home rental protection: This endorsement exists for homeowners who rent their home out for more than 30 days and less than 180 days per year.

  • The building type you’re insuring (e.g., detached house)

Belairdirect home insurance discounts

belairdirect Insurance offers at least five distinct discounts for home insurance:

  • Home and auto insurance bundle: Customers who purchase both home and car insurance from belairdirect can save up to 16% on home insurance premiums.
  • Buy online discount: If you purchase home insurance online in Ontario, you’re eligible for a 5% discount.
  • Soft credit check discount: Authorize a soft credit check when you apply, and you could save an average of 30% on your premium.
  • Monitored smoke alarm discount: If your home contains a smoke alarm that’s centrally monitored, you could reduce your premium by 5%.
  • Group affinity discount: Belairdirect’s Affinity Plus Endorsement offers exclusive savings for members of various organizations, including professional associations and alumni groups.

Many insurers offer more discounts than they advertise directly, so you may want to ask about additional discounts for which you could be eligible.

How much does belairdirect home insurance cost?

On average, belairdirect home insurance for a detached single-family home in Ontario costs about $182/month, with quotes as low as $140/month for limited coverage and as high as $222/month or more for more enhanced coverage with multiple endorsements.

Your actual home insurance quotes from belairdirect may be higher or lower based in part on the following factors:

  • Province: Local building costs and climate risks lead to different pricing trends in each province. Ontario’s home insurance rates tend to be moderate, with some provinces seeing lower rates and others, such as Alberta, seeing higher averages.
  • Home location: Your home’s proximity to fire services along with potential local climate and infrastructure risks can all impact insurance costs. Belairdirect’s standard coverage includes flood and service line coverage, so homeowners in areas with declining infrastructure or near bodies of water may pay more.
  • Home age: The older your home, the higher its risk of extensive damage from a wide range of perils.
  • Roof age: Your roof is your home’s best defense against fire, hail, wind, and other threats. The newer your roof, the less you’re likely to pay for insurance.

The belairdirect home insurance claims process

To file a home insurance claim with belairdirect, you’ll go through the process outlined below:

Is belairdirect home insurance right for you?

Belairdirect home insurance is an affordable option for many Canadians, especially those who prefer a digital-forward approach to home insurance and don’t need a policy with lots of bells and whistles.

Belairdirect’s home insurance offerings are fairly simple, with many options bundled for convenience and affordability. This may be an advantage for new homeowners or anyone who prefers to make fewer decisions when shopping for coverage, but it could be a drawback if your home has unique policy coverage needs or you prefer to customize your policy extensively.
