What does PC car insurance cover?
All PC car insurance policies include coverage required by provincial law that pays for:
- Other drivers’ medical bills and vehicle repairs if you’re found at fault in an accident
- Your own legal costs if you’re sued due to an at-fault accident
- Medical, rehabilitation, and attendant care expenses for you and your family regardless of fault
- Your own medical bills and vehicle repairs if you’re struck by an uninsured or unidentified at-fault driver
- Additional medical coverage up to your own policy limits if an at-fault driver has insufficient liability coverage
- Repairs to your vehicle if it’s damaged by an identified at-fault driver
* DCPD coverage is no longer required by law in Ontario, but you must waive the coverage in writing if you choose to remove it from your policy.
** Family protection (OPCF 44R) isn’t required by law, but it’s included as a standard option in all PC auto insurance policies and can only be removed by calling an agent.
New accident benefits options from PC Insurance
As of July 1, 2026, most accident benefits are optional under Ontario insurance law. This means that PC auto insurance customers can make many decisions about the exact benefits they’d like to include in their policy. The table below outlines the choices you may have:
* Cannot be claimed along with dependent care benefit.
** Cannot be claimed along with caregiver benefit.
How much do optional accident benefits cost?
To get a sense for how keeping or dropping optional accident benefits might impact premiums, we compared PC car insurance quotes with the maximum optional benefits selected with quotes that only included the minimum mandatory accident benefits required by Ontario law going forward.
A policy from PC for a single driver with all optional accident benefits would cost around $47 more per month than a policy with the minimum statutory benefits required by law. Income replacement, indexation, and housekeeping benefits have the largest impact on premiums, while the following benefits cost around $0.10/month to add to existing coverage:
- Death benefits
- Funeral benefits
- Damage to personal items
- Expenses of visitors
- Lost educational expenses
Optional PC car insurance coverages and endorsements
In addition to the essential coverage options outlined above, PC offers the following optional coverage and policy endorsements:
PC offers two endorsement bundles, which can reduce the cost of add-on coverage:
- Worry-Free bundle: Includes transportation replacement, liability for damage to non-owned vehicles, disappearing deductible, and accident rating waiver
- 20/27 bundle: Includes transportation replacement (OPCF 20) and liability for damage to non-owned vehicles (OPCF 27)

How much does PC car insurance cost?
On average, PC car insurance costs around $200/month for a single car and driver with all perils coverage, and $376/month for the same coverage in a household with two cars and two drivers.
Your exact rates will vary based on underwriting factors that PC’s underwriting partner, Aviva, uses to assess driver risk:
- Location: Drivers in low-crime suburban areas typically pay lower premiums than those in auto theft hotspots or rural areas with high-speed drivers.
- Coverage limits: The amount of coverage on your policy impacts the price of auto insurance.
- Age: Young drivers typically pay higher rates due to limited experience on the road.
- Gender: Women pay slightly higher auto insurance premiums with PC than men.
- Vehicle: Your vehicle’s age, model, make, claim experience, and safety features can all impact the cost of PC insurance.
- Driving history: If you have a ticket, at-fault accident, or insurance claim in the past few years, you can expect to see higher quotes.

The PC car insurance claims process
If you need to file a claim with PC insurance, you’ll need to follow the process outlined below.
- Document the incident: Whether you’re reporting an accident or storm damage, take note of all details surrounding the incident, from the date and time to the personal information of any involved parties. Take photos and video of damage to your vehicle and keep medical records, if applicable.
- Report the claim: File your claim as soon as possible (ideally within 48–72 hours of the incident) and provide as much information as you have. Be sure to have your policy number on hand when you go to file your claim.
- Work with your adjuster: PC and Aviva will assign a claims adjuster to review your claim, which may require time and additional documentation. Keep records of all communication with your adjuster and any contractors involved in vehicle repairs.
- Get repair estimates: Your adjuster may recommend that you bring your vehicle to an Aviva Auto Care Centre or another approved shop, but you can also request estimates from trusted repair professionals outside of Aviva’s network. Make sure you have at least two estimates of the cost to repair your vehicle before accepting a settlement offer.
- Approve your settlement and authorize repairs: After reviewing evidence and inspecting your vehicle, your claims adjuster will offer a settlement. If it’s in line with your expectations, you can approve the payment and authorize repairs to your vehicle.
If you file a car insurance claim with PC, you may see your premium increase at your next policy renewal. Your premium might go up as the result of updated underwriting or because you’ve lost the claims-free discount on your policy.
Is PC good for claims?
PC’s auto insurance is underwritten by Aviva, which means that Aviva will be in charge of your claim payout. The company receives mixed customer reviews for its claims experience, but you can generally expect reliable service, especially for simple claims.
PC car insurance vs. other providers
Here’s how PC Insurance compares to two other major car insurance companies:
* Average monthly premium for an all perils policy for two drivers and two vehicles.
** Maximum discount only available for PC Optimum™ members.
Is PC car insurance right for you?
PC car insurance may be a good option for PC Optimum™ members or PC credit card holders who live outside of Quebec.
PC’s auto insurance product is underwritten by Aviva, so its offerings are fairly similar to Aviva’s in terms of coverage, bundles, and claims service. PC’s discounts for Optimum members and cardholders are the primary advantage of buying coverage through PC rather than directly from Aviva.
