What does Allstate car insurance cover?
All Allstate car insurance policies include coverage required by provincial law that pays for:
- Other drivers’ medical bills and vehicle repairs if you’re found at fault in an accident
- Your own legal costs if you’re sued due to an at-fault accident
- Medical, rehabilitation, attendant care, caregiver, and funeral costs for you and your family regardless of fault
- Income replacement and non-earner benefits regardless of fault
- Your own medical bills and vehicle repairs if you’re struck by an uninsured or unidentified at-fault driver
- Repairs to your vehicle if it’s damaged by an identified at-fault driver
* Standard accident benefits may change following an update to Ontario’s mandatory insurance laws in July 2026.
** Family protection isn’t required by law but is a standard inclusion on all Allstate car insurance policies.
*** DCPD coverage is no longer required by law in Ontario, but you must waive the coverage in writing if you choose to remove it from your policy.
Optional Allstate car insurance coverages and endorsements
In addition to the core coverage required by provincial law, Allstate offers the following optional and recommended coverages and endorsements:
Availability and eligibility vary by province. You may need to call an Allstate advisor at 1‑800‑461‑9005 to customize your coverage options.
Allstate car insurance discounts
Allstate offers at least eight distinct discounts for car insurance:
- Home and auto insurance bundling discount: Buying both home and auto insurance from Allstate could earn you a discount. Allstate doesn’t specify a percentage rate for bundled savings, but states that the national average savings is over $1,000.
- Direct purchase savings: If you buy car insurance directly from Allstate through their website, you’ll see a 7.5% discount applied to your premium.
- Private parking discount: Customers who park their vehicle in a secure private garage may pay less for car insurance.
- Vehicle safety discount: When you sign up for coverage, Allstate will ask about your vehicle’s safety systems, such as forward collision mitigation or lane keeping assistance. Depending on your car’s equipment, you might earn a discount.
- Winter tire discount: If you install winter tires on your vehicle from November to April, you could save on your premium. Be prepared to provide proof to Allstate if you want this discount.
- Retiree discount: If you’re 65 years old or older, you may be eligible for a discounted premium.
- Loyalty discount: Customers continuously insured with Allstate for more than three years could earn a discount at renewal.
- Student discounts: Drivers under age 25 may be eligible for multiple discounts if they get good grades, attend school full-time far from home, or complete approved driver training courses.
Allstate’s usage-based insurance discount: Allstate Drivewise
Allstate’s Drivewise usage-based auto insurance discount program uses a smartphone app to track your driving and offer potential discounts based on safe driving habits. Unlike some UBI programs, Drivewise won’t cause your rate to go up based on driving habits tracked by the app.
- How it works: When you register for Drivewise, you’ll receive an automatic activation discount. The Drivewise app then tracks your driving for six months and replaces your activation discount with an earned discount calculated based on your driving behaviour.
- What it tracks: Speeding (especially over 125km/hr), braking, time of day
- Activation discount: 10%
- Maximum discount: 30%
- Maximum potential penalty: 0%
How much does Allstate car insurance cost?
On average, Allstate car insurance costs around $225/month for a single car and driver in Ontario, or $407/month for a household with two cars and two drivers.
Your actual car insurance quotes from Allstate may vary based on a wide range of underwriting factors, including:
- Location: Drivers in northern Ontario and rural or suburban areas typically pay lower rates due to less dense traffic and lower rates of auto theft.
- Coverage limits: Whether you’re buying only the mandatory coverage required by provincial law or a robust policy with multiple endorsements, your price will reflect your coverage selections. The two most expensive additions: collision and comprehensive insurance.
- Age: Younger drivers pay more for Allstate car insurance due to a higher statistical risk of crashes (but you may also qualify for unique discounts!).
- Gender: Women see slightly higher rates in our analysis.
- Vehicle: Your vehicle’s make, model, age, safety features, and usage all impact the cost of car insurance from Allstate.
- Driving history: Allstate may price your coverage higher if you have driving violations or insurance cancellations from the last three years or a license suspension or insurance claim in the last six years.
Note: Unlike other carriers, who allow customers to add or remove bundling discounts if they’re purchasing multiple products, Allstate applies a home and auto insurance bundling discount to all car and home insurance quotes. The prices shown below factor in this discount. If you purchase standalone car insurance from Allstate, your rates may be higher than the sample prices shown here.

The Allstate car insurance claims process
To file a car insurance claim with Allstate, follow the steps below:
- Report your claim: Be sure to provide your policy number, photos and videos of the damage to your vehicle (if applicable), and a thorough description of the incident, including time and date, parties involved, and weather conditions.
- Stay in contact with your adjuster: Allstate will assign a claims adjuster to your case to review the evidence and reach a settlement. Customers warn that adjuster communication can be difficult, so be proactive about staying in touch.
- Choose your repair shop: Allstate may advise you to choose a shop from their Good Hands Repair Network, which permits direct billing and guarantees all repairs. However, you have the right to choose your own shop if you prefer.
- Authorize repairs: Once your adjuster and the shop repairing your vehicle have agreed on the cost to repair it, you can authorize the repairs and work on setting up payment, either directly to the shop or as a reimbursement to you.
Your Allstate car insurance premium will likely go up if you make a claim unless you have the Claim Forgiveness endorsement, although the increase may be small if it’s not related to an at-fault accident. Be aware that some customers report being dropped by Allstate after making claims.

Is Allstate car insurance right for you?
Allstate car insurance may be a good option if you are under age 25 or over age 64, have a car with significant safety features, and/or have minor driving violations on your record.
Allstate’s primary advantage is its competitive pricing and discounts, which may offer low rates to drivers in certain categories, such as young students, retirees, and moderate-risk drivers. The downside? Some customers report experiencing communication issues and delays throughout the claims process.
