Beneficiaries get one-on-one help with grief, funeral planning, and estate tasks at no extra cost, in English and French across Canada

PolicyMe life insurance beneficiaries in Canada now get access to Empathy, a digital bereavement support platform, for up to two years after a loss. Empathy helps families with the practical and emotional side of losing a loved one, from funeral planning to grief support, and it’s available in English and French across Canada.

Losing someone you love comes with more than grief. There are funeral arrangements to make, paperwork to manage, accounts to close, and financial decisions that often can’t wait. Empathy provides personalized guidance, digital tools, and one-on-one support from trained Care Managers to help with all of it.

A life insurance payout can provide financial security, but it doesn’t necessarily make everything that follows easier. PolicyMe life insurance is issued by Securian Canada, and together with Empathy, we’re extending support for beneficiaries beyond the payout.

Here’s what that looks like.

Why we're extending support beyond the life insurance payout

Life insurance is designed to help protect the people you leave behind financially, but when someone dies, their family is often left managing responsibilities they've never encountered before. Even with financial protection in place, navigating an estate, applying for government benefits and understanding what needs to happen next can be overwhelming, especially while grieving.

Empathy is now available to eligible PolicyMe life insurance beneficiaries, giving families somewhere to turn for practical and emotional support during the months that follow.

What is Empathy, and how does it help after a death?

Empathy is a digital platform that pairs personalized tools with one-on-one support from trained Care Managers. When a beneficiary signs up, they receive a tailored Care Plan and access to a dedicated Care Manager who can help them understand what needs to happen next and work through tasks at their own pace.

Support includes:

  • Funeral planning
  • Probate and estate administration
  • Applying for benefits
  • Closing accounts
  • Managing outstanding debts

Empathy also offers grief resources, including guided meditations, journaling and expert-developed content, alongside support for challenges like family tensions, returning to work and sleep difficulties.

Which PolicyMe life insurance policies include Empathy support, and what does it cost?

Empathy is provided at no additional cost for eligible beneficiaries of PolicyMe term, permanent (T100), and guaranteed issue life insurance, for up to two years after a loss. There’s no additional cost.

Beneficiaries of these three PolicyMe life insurance products are eligible:

Family members can use Empathy too. Up to five people can share one account to divide responsibilities and work through tasks together. Beneficiaries can also contact Empathy’s Care Team directly for one-on-one support.

What changes for PolicyMe life insurance beneficiaries?

Empathy doesn't replace the life insurance benefit or claims process. It provides an additional layer of support, helping families manage the practical and emotional responsibilities that come with losing someone. Empathy doesn’t provide legal, financial, or tax advice, but its Care Team can help beneficiaries find the right professional.

What PolicyMe life insurance policyholders can do today

If you have life insurance through PolicyMe, make sure your beneficiaries know about Empathy and the support available to them.

Let them know where to find information about making a life insurance claim, and take a moment to check that your beneficiary information is up to date.

Life insurance is about protecting the people who matter to you. With Empathy, we're extending that support beyond the payout, helping families navigate what comes next.
